“Flash AND HTML5”
I was just reading quotes from this guy in the actual newspaper while on the subway. I’m pretty sure this picture was taken during the interview.
I’m sure it’s a great honor, but admit it: you’d be kind of embarrassed to be nominated for a Grammy with today’s slate of nominees.
AMIRITE?
The man who invented the cash machine
“It struck me there must be a way I could get my own money, anywhere in the world or the UK. I hit upon the idea of a chocolate bar dispenser, but replacing chocolate with cash.”
Plastic cards had not been invented, so Mr Shepherd-Barron’s machine used cheques that were impregnated with carbon 14, a mildly radioactive substance.
The machine detected it, then matched the cheque against a Pin number.
However, Mr Shepherd-Barron denies there were any health concerns: “I later worked out you would have to eat 136,000 such cheques for it to have any effect on you.”
Beta Testers Wanted
I’m looking for some beta testers to test some stuff I’ve been working on. If you are interested and qualify in either (or both) of the two categories below, please let me know via email or twitter or something.
- Do you have a website that gets some traffic? I’d love to install a bit of JavaScript code on it to test out something for the book. (Your site doesn’t need to get tons of traffic, but a steady stream would be great).
- Do you have a modern phone such as an iPhone or Android phone? Do you enjoy having a good time? Are you located in the United States? (This is going to be fun)
Thanks!
Admit It, Microsoft: You Suck at the Web – GigaOM
The time to start chipping away at Google’s dominance of the search market was five or 10 years ago. Now is the time to be hitting at Facebook and Twitter.
Sounds about right to me.
I am unwilling to take your passwords OR why I disabled 1 click posting to tumblr
A good deal of users on enjoysthin.gs use a feature that enables 1-click posting to their tumblr account. If you see something that you like and want to share it on tumblr, click a button and it end up on your tumblr site (example). Many of these users use this feature several times a day. They will be the last users allowed to do this.
As of today, I’ve disabled anyone from signing up for 1-click posting to tumblr. I am unwilling to store your passwords in my database, which is needed to use the tumblr API. In the event that tumblr implements an OAuth (or similar) API, I’ll be happy to re-enable this feature for everyone else.
As a developer, I really don’t like saving sensitive information if I don’t have to do it. As a matter of fact, I don’t even store your enjoysthin.gs password in the database, so if a hacker accessed the database, they still wouldn’t be able to see your password.
(If you’re already using this feature, you can continue to do so… until you email me and tell me to turn it off.)

This appears to be a freeloader on my wifi network… from Finder, is there any way to figure out the IP of this machine?
