OmniFocus + SMS
I’ve been trying to use a task manager lately. I’m not a task management type of guy though, so it’s been a bit of a rough ride. In the past few weeks, I think I’ve tried everything available that runs on the web or on a mac. The only one I’ve been able to stick with for more than a day has been OmniFocus.
However, I really want to do one thing that it can’t do: enter tasks via SMS. So, I took it upon myself to set that up using Shifd callbacks.
If you use OmniFocus and want to enter tasks via SMS (for free!), you can do it too! This works perfectly if you have a computer at home that is always on. If you sync with MobileMe, it will automatically sync to all of your computers (and your iPhone).
Here’s how you can set it up, keep in mind that your mac will need to be running a webserver and it will need to be publicly accessible.
- Copy this code and save it to your computer’s web root as shifd-to-omnifocus.php (it should now be accessible at http://your-computer/shifd-to-omnifocus.php or http://your-ip/shifd-to-omnifocus.php or whatever)
- Login to Shifd (signup if you need to) and edit your profile. Click “Add Callback URLs” and enter the URL you created above http://your-computer/shifd-to-omnifocus.php
- You’re done! Now just send an SMS to 74433 (SHIFD) with text like “do something important.” That will get saved as a task called “something important” and immediately synced with MobileMe.
