A few minutes after screaming at the top of her lungs for a rather long period of time, Ara remarked, “My throat is sore.”
Later, referring to her husband (me), “It was a rather manly cry.”
Can you guess the incident? I’ll post the cause of the commotion a bit later.
These guys are fantastic and they’re playing tonight at Webster Hall. I happen to have an extra ticket, anyone want it?
We’re just finishing up our Nora Ephron-athon and eating Mallowmars.
Err… we’ve been watching a lot of Die Hard movies… what did I say?
Without question, The Band is greatest Canadian band of all time. Canadians (with an American drummer) who came to embody the sound of a romanticized American south. As I’m sure you know, they have so many great songs that I could have posted, so I’ve settled on this old classic.
Also, my favorite fun fact about The Band is that the name suposedly comes from people referring to them as ‘the band’ when they were backing Bob Dylan, they were actually called ‘The Hawks’ at the time.
And with that, Canadian music week is dead. Long live Canadian music week!
This song is great. It reminds me of Neutral Milk Hotel, if Neutral Milk Hotel did a concept album about being a mechanical horse.
Tomorrow, which will be my final day of Canadian music week, will conclude with the greatest Canadian band of all time. There shall be no discussion on the righteousness of that band, nor the definitiveness of the decision.

I had a really hard time deciding my favorite moment from this season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” It was a toss-up between the Charlie and D’s “Walk a mile in my shoes” moments from episode 9 and two of the songs from the season finale, “The Night Man Cometh.” In the end I have to go for the clip embedded above. Charlie Day’s performance here is just stellar. Everything about it is perfect and when you consider the backstory - that he did all of this as an elaborate proposal - it’s gets even funnier/sadder. I really, really loved it. But draw your own conclusion. Here are the other three moments that I absolutely loved this season.
Troll Toll (at 13:00)
Cat Food / Standup Comedy (at 4:00 and 9:00, respectively)
Dear lord… Danny DeVito running in and eating the cat food was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on TV.
With a name like this, it’s got to be good. And while this song isn’t quite Gram Parsons great, but it’s pretty good.
This is from their album “Going Steady,” which is reasonably solid. They wear a good deal of influences on their sleeve throughout the album. Influences that, for a song or two, are so overwhelming it would seem as if Arcade Fire was actually in the studio with them. Then Broken Social Scene seemingly comes through to record some demo tracks with toy Casio keyboards and twangy guitars.
Accoring to Silicon Alley Insider, when given the option for a single two minute commercial or four 30 second spots, Hulu claims people prefer the two minute ads. That seems a bit obvious to me, it’s ncie to get the ads over with and just watch the show.
However, spread out or lumped together, nobody seems to mind the ads on Hulu very much. I think it’s for two reasons:
Sorry, I’ve been thinking about ads a lot lately. Canadian music week will return shortly.
Canadian music week does not rest on American national holidays.
While this song was written by her, she shares some of the songwriting credits on this album with Ron Sexsmith, amongst others. Give this one a shot, it’s great and a perfect listen while coming out of a turkey induced coma.
